Can Twitter army save District 3 from being the latest X Factor casualties?

District 3 might be tipped to go in tonight's X Factor eviction, but they're not going down without a massive fight. Well, a massive fight on Twitter , which is more about retweets than punches in the face, but hey - that's the modern sort of fight for you.

The boys - Mickey, Greg and the one who was supposedly flirting with Katie Price - have had some high profile Twitter support, in the form of Taio Cruz, whose sung they sung on last night's show, and Niall from One Direction , who in one tweet may have saved them from eviction. That's the power of One Direction.

Niall tweeted: 'great job lads! I'll be voting ! Fingers crossed boys! Super nice fellas' to the band, who replied 'Thank's mate!'

Try to ignore the rogue apostrophe in Thanks. We know it's hard.

They then followed it up with some general praise for lovely Niall, saying: 'I tell u .. @NiallOfficial is one of the nicest guys out there !! #hero'

The boys have been working hard to campaign for votes on Twitter today too, telling fans of the band (who they name '3eeks' - we're not sure it works either) that they 'need your power'.

On last night's Xtra Factor, the boys acknowledged that they were in trouble, saying: ?We?re a little bit deflated but we?re going to try to keep our heads up and stay strong.

?I agree with it to some extent. We?ve got to this stage of the competition, we done the first couple of the weeks on the lives and we tried to do what we love to do, but maybe it wasn?t enough. So we tried to really up the stakes with the energy.

"It's always good to take a risk, and we're always finding ourselves and who we are on the show."

They then added: "To be honest, we'd just like to sit down with a guitar again and sing a song. We haven't shown our musicianship yet and we'd like to show we play instruments."

So will they get the chance? Well that's up to the judges, isn't it? Well them, Niall and the massive amount of teenage girls currently retweeting away on Twitter...
