Oil falls to near $83 in Asia ahead of US data (AP)

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia ? Oil prices fell to near $83 a barrel Wednesday in Asia after a sharp rally ahead of the release of key U.S. data that could indicate the economic health of the world's largest crude consumer nation.

Benchmark oil fell $1.26, or 1.5 percent, to $83.19 a barrel at midafternoon Kuala Lumpur time in electronic trading on the New York Mercantile Exchange. The contract surged $4.21 to finish at $84.45 per barrel in New York on Tuesday.

In London, Brent crude for November delivery was down 80 cents at $106.34 on the ICE Futures exchange.

Oil's rally Tuesday mirrored gains in global stock markets, buoyed by hopes that Europe was preparing a plan to contain the region's debt crisis that would prevent another recession.

But some analysts foresee bleak prospects.

JP Morgan projected the eurozone economy to shrink by up to 1 percent in the next nine months before resuming growth in the second half of 2012. This could hurt oil demand, it said.

Energy investment consultants Ritterbusch and Associates said oil prices could see some support at $85-$86 a barrel but likely to head south in the near term as a longer-term solution to Europe's debt crisis remained elusive.

It said focus has shifted to key economic releases in the U.S. due later this week that will give clues on the future strength of demand for fuel, including data for gross domestic product, crude stockpiles and personal income.

The American Petroleum Institute late Tuesday said crude stocks rose 568,000 barrels for the week ended Sept. 23, lower than market expectations. However, Ritterbusch said it expected data by the Energy Department's Energy Information Administration ? the market benchmark ? due later Wednesday to be bearish.

Crude oil has fallen about 15 percent since July and is down 26 percent since hitting a high for the year of $113.93 per barrel on April 29.

In other energy trading, heating oil fell 1 cent to $2.87 per gallon, gasoline futures shed $2.70 cents to $2.61 per gallon and natural gas was down 1 cent at $3.86 per 1,000 cubic feet.

The Bent Chetler provided me with opportunity to make the perfect powder turns all day long. It was just easer. My legs were fresh all day long. I still got the face shots that we always love without the typical crashes that come with the deep pow. I love them and will never be seen without them on a power day.?

The Look

Atomic did a fantastic job making sure this ski looks unique. Everybody that rides on the lift with a proud owner of the Ben Chetler will most likely be gawking at the ski the whole ride up. SALT LAKE CITY ? A North Carolina man crawled four days across the Utah desert after breaking his leg on a solo hike, inspired by a Hollywood movie about a man who cut off his own arm to save himself after being trapped by a boulder in the same canyon.

Amos Wayne Richards, 64, of Concord, N.C., is now recovering at home. He said he was inspired to hike Little Blue John Canyon after he saw the Oscar-nominated movie "127 Hours" but fell 10 feet during his trek on Sept. 8.

Canyonlands National Park rangers found Richards four days later. Along with the leg injury, he dislocated his shoulder but was able to work it back into place.

"It took me about 3 or 4 minutes to work my shoulder and get it back in place, and once I got it back in place, I stood up and realized my ankle hurt a little bit," Richards told WBTV in Charlotte last week after his story started getting the attention of national TV news networks.

Without cellphone service and only two protein bars to eat, Richards began crawling back to his car across the rocky terrain. He filled his water bottles with rain as he painstakingly retraced his steps, eventually dragging himself almost five miles.

"I was actually following my GPS, crawling right on top of my feet print that I had hiked in on," Richards said.

Rangers first began looking for Richards Sept. 9 after his campsite was found unattended, said Denny Ziemann, chief ranger for Canyonlands and Arches national parks. They discovered his car two days later at the trailhead for Little Blue John Canyon, which is part of the Canyonlands remote and rugged Maze District but technically outside park boundaries.

"The search was pretty quick and dirty" once they realized where Richards had gone hiking, Ziemann said. Within hours, a helicopter spotted Richards ? who used the flash on his camera to catch the pilot's attention ? only a couple of miles from his car.

Richards was treated for the shattered leg and dehydration at a hospital in Moab, Utah, before returning to North Carolina to recover.

Ziemann said the result could have been much worse for Richards because he went hiking alone and without telling anybody his plans. Temperatures in the region were in the 80s during the day and 60s at night.

"We make a lot of rescues of people, but we usually know where they are," Ziemann said. "They were either hiking with somebody and got hurt or if they were hiking alone, they told people where they were going."

In 2003, climber Aron Ralston hiked into the same canyon also without telling anyone his plans. He became trapped by a boulder and was forced to cut off his own arm to free himself. Ralston went on to detail his struggles in a book. His story was later adapted into "127 Hours."

Judges kick Carl Lewis off NJ state Senate ballot (AP)

TRENTON, N.J. ? The political career of nine-time Olympic gold medalist Carl Lewis has been declared a false start.

A federal appeals panel ruled Thursday that he should be removed from a state Senate ballot because he does not meet the New Jersey's four-year residency requirement. Lewis' lawyer said he has not decided whether to appeal, but time is running short: Ballots are about to go to the printer for an election less than seven weeks away.

Lewis scheduled a news conference for Friday.

The ruling in the topsy-turvy and politically charged case came nine days after the same three-judge panel from the 3rd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals said Lewis, a Democrat, should be on the ballot. But instead of issuing a full legal opinion, the court scheduled another hearing, which it held earlier this week.

And when its opinion came out Thursday, it was different than the earlier order:

"Lewis has failed to show that, as applied to him, the four-year state residency requirement for the office of state senator in New Jersey has treated him unequally," the opinion said.

And in a footnote, the Philadelphia court gave the practical directive to county clerks' offices: "The printing of ballots without Lewis' name may proceed."

It's not clear whether it will be that simple.

Democratic officials could ask a court to halt the printing of ballots for two reasons: so they could challenge Thursday's ruling or so they could nominate a replacement candidate.

Burlington County Democratic Committee Chairman Joe Andl said Thursday morning that his committee's legal team would need to review the ruling before making a decision.

But they won't have much time. The legal deadline to begin sending out ballots to residents living overseas ? including military personnel ? is Friday. And ballots are to be sent to other voters within days.

In a statement, Lewis' lawyer seemed resigned to the idea that the track star won't be running for office this year.

"It is unfortunate that the voters of the Eighth Legislative District are being denied a meaningful choice in this election by today's decision," said William Tambussi. "The extreme measures taken by the Republican Party to keep Carl Lewis off the ballot truly do a disservice to the voters."

Still, Tambussi said, Lewis was still considering his options.

Republicans, meanwhile, lauded the ruling.

"Carl Lewis clearly did not meet the constitutional residency requirement to run for Senate and, in spite of his celebrity status, he has to play by the same rules that everyone else has to play by," said Chris Russell, a consultant to the Burlington County Republicans who intervened in the case. "Frankly, it never made much sense that someone who had not paid income taxes in New Jersey and didn't register to vote in New Jersey until the day he announced his candidacy, should be on the ballot for State Senate in New Jersey."

Lewis, 50, grew up in Willingboro, N.J., went to college in Texas and settled in California.

In 1984, he was one of the big stars of the Olympic in Los Angeles, winning four gold medals in track and field and moving from famous in his sport to famous everywhere. He would add five more Olympic golds over the next 12 years.

He bought homes in New Jersey in 2005 and 2007 and began working as a volunteer track coach at Willingboro High School. But he continued to pay taxes in California and voted there in 2009. He registered to vote in New Jersey only this year.

Secretary of State Kim Guadagno, a Republican who is also the lieutenant governor elected as Gov. Chris Christie's running mate, removed Lewis from the ballot.

In its ruling Thursday, the court, which was weighing not only when Lewis became a resident but also which legal standard should be used to review whether the requirement itself was constitutional, said that was the right decision.

Lewis and his supporters say it was a politically motivated move designed to keep the well-known Democrat from running against Republican incumbent Dawn Addiego in the 8th Legislative District, a reliably Republican area in the outer ring of New Jersey's Philadelphia suburbs.

Lawyers for the state say they were just trying to enforce a residency requirement that's been part of the state constitution since 1844.

To our surprise, we got a letter last week from representatives of Beck, who asked us to change it. We don't want to create confusion with Beck, or for that matter Jeff Beck, Glenn Beck, Beck's beer, or any other Beck. We hope he listened to some tunes from the new album, also called 'Sons of Fathers!'

It was a sign for us to change the name to something that included the whole band, not just a duo. We are all in this together and we all play a role. We used the phrase "Sons of Fathers" long before we wrote the song and changed the band name. It is our expression about the past, our families, our roots and who we are, good or bad, right or wrong.

Huh. At least they're getting press out of it? Seriously though, who would've thought the day would come when Beck became The Man?

Raising Medicare's Eligibility Age Back on the ... - Elder Law Answers

The hospital industry has mounted a fierce lobbying campaign to persuade Congress to raise the Medicare eligibility age from 65 to 67 by 2014.? The hospitals are making the push in order to avoid billions of dollars of cuts in their future Medicare payments.

The deficit reduction plan agreed to by Congress calls for a 12-member Congressional "supercommittee" -- six members from each party ? to come up with between $1.2 and $1.5 trillion in budget cuts by Thanksgiving.?? If the committee can't reach an agreement, hospitals and other health care providers will be hit with automatic Medicare payment reductions amounting to $45 billion over 10 years.

To prevent these cuts, the American Hospital Association is urging its nearly 5,000 members to lobby Congress to delay by two years the age that Baby Boomers can become eligible for Medicare.? The hospitals have another incentive for requesting the change: private insurers pay them more than Medicare does, on average.? ??

President Obama reportedly floated raising Medicare's eligibility age during the deficit reduction debate, and it could be included in his recently proposed "modest adjustments to health care programs like Medicare."

The hospitals maintain that the effect of delaying Medicare coverage would be minimized because the new health law allows the uninsured to buy their own health insurance through state insurance exchanges starting in 2014, and the law also provides a subsidy to employers who provide health insurance to their retirees.?

But the employer subsidy would have little impact because less than a third of retirees age 55 to 64 get health coverage from their old employers. ?And Paul N. Van de Water, a Senior Fellow at the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities, argues that raising the eligibility age would simply shift costs from the government to the private sector.? Although the federal government would save $5.7 billion, the change would cost potential beneficiaries, employers, states and other insureds $11.4 billion (chart).

Van de Water says two-thirds of 65- and 66-year-olds who lose their Medicare coverage and join the exchanges would pay an average of $2,200 more a year in premiums and cost-sharing charges. ?The influx of would-be Medicare beneficiaries into the exchanges would also drive up premiums for younger enrollees, and if the health reform law is repealed, the exchanges will vanish and large numbers of 65- and 66-year-olds would be uninsured.? Many of these uninsured would end up in emergency rooms, which would not help the hospitals' bottom lines.

Relationship Anarchy ? Multiple Relationships with Consent

When in a relationship, it is the love between the two that binds them. But, why does it have to be only two in a relationship, why not three if not more? This question is what gives rise to the term relationship anarchy. The neologism, relationship anarchy or relational anarchy, also shortly referred to as RA, questions the very idea of real love which is limited to two people in a relationship at one point of time. In fact, RA suggests that true love can be possible with more than one person at a time. Seems like Keira Knightley is only exploring the realm of relationship anarchy then!

The Ideal Relation

If my statement doesn?t seem far fetched, an ideal relationship, or the love that blossoms between two people, runs on a certain set of rules and regulations-

• be loyal to the person with who you are into a relation with at the moment
• you are not supposed to love or enter into into a relation if you are already seeing someone else or are already married
• compromising in a relationship is inevitable, it is the price we pay for being together

The above set of rules and regulations are what define a monogamous relationship, the ideal relationship that is deemed fit by the society. Break these rules, and you are a sinner. Loyalty, faith, possessiveness, trust and to certain extent, even obsession are what define true love, and it is possible if we adhere to the above mentioned societal rules about an ideal relationship.

Open Relationship

Humans need constant change, in everything, so why not the way in which we maintain a relationship. May be this kind of thinking is what led to polyamory, or more simply known as an open relationship.

Polyamory or an open relationship is defined as being in intimate relationships with multiple partners at the same time. So, is it not sedition? I actually missed a crucial part in the definition, which is ?consent?. Everyone involved in the relationship would have to express their consent about having multiple partners. If approved, it?s no sedition.

Relationship anarchy also follows the same lines, with subtle differences though.

Relationship Anarchy

True love does not happen just once at one time and with one person ? this is take of relationship anarchs. They believe that being in love with multiple persons at the same time is possible. For anarchs, love has no barricades and no rules, and the intimate feeling can be shared with more than one person at a time.

Not necessarily do the relationships need to be physical but, one can share the same attachment and emotions with another.

Polyamory v Relationship Anarchy

As mentioned above, both the terms are more or less the same but, RA is different. How is it different?

In polyamory, you are in multiple relationships with consent but, the relationships are categorized into outside marriage, friendship, physical relationships and so on.

In RA, there is no such categorization. No partner is primary nor secondary. So, multiple affairs, friendships, sexual relationships etc can all be had at the same time.

Basically, there are no commitments in RA.

Principles of RA

Unlike the societal rules of an ideal relationship, relationship anarchy is based on a few principles-

• loving more than one person without categorizing them is possible
• love has to be selfless and should not set boundaries in each others paths
• no need to compromise for the individuals you love, only learn to respect their views
• do not do anything in the relationships because you have to but, do it because you want to
• learn to fight the norms of monogamy

Just like any other relationship out there, be it heterosexual, bisexual, homosexual or lesbian, relationship anarchy also exists. At least one thing with RA is that no one feels cheated as there is the most important consent and openness about the relationships from all the partners involved.
