From our Manager, Jonathan: ?The Atomic Bent Chetler Skis are the greatest ski for the perfect power day. I was not a believer of the rocker skis until I had the chance to ride this one on a 38 inch power day at Grand Targhee Ski Resort. It was not the first time that I have been exposed to this much pow. This time was different? this time I had the right skis on. The Bent Chetler provided me with opportunity to make the perfect powder turns all day long. It was just easer. My legs were fresh all day long. I still got the face shots that we always love without the typical crashes that come with the deep pow. I love them and will never be seen without them on a power day.?
The Look
Atomic did a fantastic job making sure this ski looks unique. Everybody that rides on the lift with a proud owner of the Ben Chetler will most likely be gawking at the ski the whole ride up. The graphics are unique, which is a plus! Who wants to be riding a pair of skis that everybody already owns?
The Pop Rocker
For those unfamiliar to the Rocker ski, it is quite simply the opposite of a regular camber ski. The tips gradually bow outwards away from the snow. This makes you float much better in the powder. Because of this, the skis work best in the powder. They do have a section of camber in the middle of the ski, so you can still get around on the groomers.
Fat
With a waist width of 123, tip of 142, and the tail of 134, this ski is very wide! This has to be kept in mind for mounting your bindings. If you want brakes on your skis (which is a good idea,) make sure they are wide enough to accommodate the 123mm width of the ski.
A lot of people fear fat skis, because they don?t want them to click eachother or catch an edge on a turn because they are so fat. One of the most impressive features of this ski is that they do not feel that fat! You will be surprised that they are as wide as they are as you ski them, because it feels like they should be more narrow.
Performance
Combining the Pop-Rocker Tips with the crazy-fat ski, it makes for a very unique powder experience. The nature of the ski does a lot of the work for you, so it does not drain your energy like an all-mountain ski will in the deep snow.
The width of the ski also helps with stability. A common issue with camber skis is the tendency to feel slightly wishy-washy under foot, especially in not-so deep snow. The Ben Chetler does not have that issue! The squirrely feeling is non-existent, which is especially nice if you plan to traverse across the mountain to your secret powder basin, or on the way back to the lift on a short-shot of groomers.
In the deep snow, Atomic did a great job making the Ben Chetler feel very playful with amazing control! This ski makes skiing in deep powder like floating down the mountain on a cloud! At Barrie?s Ski and Sports, we were quite impressed with the difference this ski makes while experiencing the powder.
Overall
We are giving these skis very high remarks from Barrie?s Sports! In our opinion, they are the best powder ski for this upcoming 2011-12 season. Way to go, Atomic! We love your skis!
